Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar® is proud to be part of Rio de Janeiro’s history, integrating the cultural assets that have been recognized as an Urban Cultural Landscape, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar®, in partnership with the City Hall of Rio since 2014, has adopted the Cláudio Coutinho Trail and the Morro da Urca Trail leading to the park. The goal is to preserve biodiversity and ensure a safe experience, with actions for maintenance, cleaning, and restoration of native vegetation. The adopted area covers approximately 38,000 m² and includes the Trail and the Path, which are easily accessible.
The Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar® carries out biodiversity preservation actions around the Sugarloaf Natural Monument, such as cleanup drives on Urca and Vermelha beaches and sea turtle monitoring. The project includes environmental education activities and is documented in the web series Verde Mar na Praia Vermelha, available on YouTube.
Educa Bondinho is an educational program that transforms the Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar® into an outdoor classroom, covering topics such as fauna, flora, geology, and the history of Rio de Janeiro. With over 30 years of complimentary access for public schools, the program was formalized in 2015 and aims to raise awareness among students and teachers about environmental preservation. It aligns its content with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, promoting environmental education in a playful and fun way.
The Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar® works on the conservation of rupicolous plants, such as endangered orchids, in partnership with UNIRIO. The project involves population reinforcement and reintroduction of these species, as well as educational campaigns to raise awareness among employees and visitors about their importance to local biodiversity.
Scientific meetings and events organized by Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar® in partnership with the management of MoNa, which take place along the Cláudio Coutinho Track and the Morro da Urca Trail, aiming to raise awareness about the environmental conservation of the area, promote initiatives related to adoption, and discuss opportunities and improvements
The new observatory, located 400 meters above ground, is part of the pilot project of the "Baleia Jubarte" program, which began in 1988 in Bahia and expanded to Rio de Janeiro in 2021. The program aims to conserve and study humpback whales. The Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar® also hosts the "Baleias Cariocas" exhibition, featuring photos from the 2023 expedition, allowing the public to learn about the life and behaviors of these whales.
The Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar® encourages the practice of birdwatching, which focuses on observing birds. The project promotes environmental education, raises awareness about the importance of birds in the ecosystem, and contributes to the monitoring and preservation of species, providing an immersive experience for visitors.
The Parque Bondinho Pão de Açúcar®, in partnership with AMERIO, has implemented a meliponary, the Jardim do Mel, on Morro da Urca to house stingless native bees. These bees are essential pollinators for biodiversity and the recovery of the Atlantic Forest. The space, with its accessible and friendly name, aims to educate the public about the importance of bees and encourage sustainable practices, promoting the conservation of local biodiversity.
